Cambria County’s Nonprofit Arts and Culture Industry Generates $34.2 Million in Economic Activity and Supports over 1,000 Full Time Equivalent Jobs Annually According to Americans for the Arts Arts Industry Returns $3.5 Million in Revenue to Local and State Government Cambria County PA is one of 182 study regions that participated in the Arts and Economic Prosperity IV, the most comprehensive economic impact study of the nonprofit arts and culture industry ever conducted in the United States. Arts & Economic Prosperity IV was conducted by Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education. The results of this study show that arts and culture are big business in Cambria County. Locally the nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $34,157,920 in annual economic activity in the county —supporting 1,036 full-time equivalent jobs and generating $3.5 million in local and state government revenues. The Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies may soon become a reality as local leaders advocate a united front to market and coordinate exhibitions and performances while avoiding scheduling conflicts with other events. “Imagine a local arts organization that works together with its members to provide complementary programming, that meets regularly to discuss activities so that conflicting programming and events are avoided and that cost-shares marketing in order to get more visibility for their advertising dollars,” said Michael Bodolosky, executive director of the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center and one of the principals behind the initiative. Tom Corbett to be vice chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts (PCA), said she vehemently supports the formation of the Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies. The PCA currently is undertaking the creation of a new five-year plan and has just completed a series of hearings around the state to gather information and concerns facing arts groups and consumers. The Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies – now in the works – would help entertainment sites avoid scheduling conflicts and would encourage venues to engage in cross-marketing for their mutual benefit.
